Students at 35 Des Moines schools and three learning centers can now eat breakfast and lunch at no cost because of a special U.S. Dept. of Agriculture program targeting high poverty schools throughout the U.S. The move will ensure students are focused on learning and not on hunger. Students at 19 elementary schools, including Morris Elementary, will adjust their schedule by 10 minutes this fall. It’s a move that will give bus drivers much needed time to get from school to school. The Des Moines Public School District is making some changes in school hours for the 2014-15 school year.  The change for Morris is that our regular school hours will be 8:45-3:30.  Early dismissal on Wednesdays will be at 2:00.  The doors will open in the morning for students at 8:25am.

The first annual Des Moines 21st Century Community Learning Centers Makers Convention featured nearly 300 students from 9 schools, including Morris. It’s been more than 25 years since DMPS made comprehensive changes to elementary school attendance areas. As a Title I school, our students may qualify for tutoring services at no cost to their family. To be eligible, students must also be approved for free/reduced-price lunch, and not have received tutoring services during the first semester of this school year.
